Staying Centered in Times of Stress

I was filtering through some of my previous topics in my wellness community and found that my theme for February is actually very fitting for what many of us are experiencing right now. I certainly do not live my life in fear, but the uncertainty of the weeks and months to come sure gets me frazzled (type A personality who loves to schedule and plan). Whatever the effect of current situation hold for you and your family, hopefully the next few posts will help you regain a sense of security, calmness and joy.

To kick things off, lets start with some simple tips for staying centered.

Balance- Finding balance helps us stay mindful. I personally struggle with this, especially now working more from home. However, I am aware it is an issue and pay close attention to my emotions and set boundaries between my work/ play schedule.

Lose yourself in a hobby – whether it is playing music, reading, crafting, or hiking- whatever you love to do for FUN should be added to your day or week regularly to help stay balanced. If time is an issue, don’t fret. Even 5-10 minutes of time dedicated to something you LOVE and do just for enjoyment can help. Even better, you will likely actually be more productive with the rest of your day to day.

A Grounding Mantra – This is incredibly powerful. Write down affirmations for yourself and read them first thing in the morning when you set your intentions for the day and throughout the day when you need a little boost.

A Sensory Trick- This is a cup of warm tea, your favorite essential oil, some fresh air outside….whatever kicks your senses into high gear. When we heighten one of our key senses, we are often able to get out of our own head.
