Black Box Warning

I was 18 years old when I decided to get breast implants, but waited until my mid-twenties to go through with it. I don’t know that anyone could have changed my stubborn 20 something mind if they tried. I have learned a few things since then, which leads me to this second elective surgery to have the toxic bags removed.

The most astounding thing I have since learned is those devices have a black box warning on them that specifically state a variety of systematic symptoms such as joint pain, muscle aches, confusion, chronic fatigue, autoimmune diseases, and others. It even states that some patients report complete resolution of symptoms when implants are removed without replacement. Yet, most conventional doctors refuse to believe in breast implant illness.

This is why I am sharing my story, speaking my truth. There is so much to uncover- including body image stigma and the debate on why women alter their bodies in hopes of finding confidence. I can’t speak for other women, my hope is that in sharing my story someone looking for answers or support will find it.
