Reflection, Intention, Progress: A Mental Reset

What are you thoughts on resolutions? How do you set yourself up for success when thinking about your hopes, dreams, goals and endeavours? If you find you are lacking motivation to get your 2021 started, changing your perspective and approach may be helpful for reaching your potential this year. Sometimes setting restrictions with definitive goals can become discouraging if it takes a little longer than expected to accomplish. A mental reset can help put things into perspective and allow you to embrace the growth that is happening.

I like to do a mental reset several times a year, include the beginning of a new year. If long spurts of time are difficult for you to break down, do it monthly or weekly even.

Instead of resolutions, I like to shift my mindset just a bit and consider the alternative: REFLECTION, INTENTION, PROGRESS

Reflect on the past years. Don’t limit yourself to just one year. Think about things you miss about yourself if you have gotten lost in motherhood or your career. Think about who you want to be. This can be difficult, because sometimes we are forced to face things we keep avoiding emotionally, but knowing was you truly want and desire opens up a world of possibilities.

Set your intentions- think big and small. Do you want smoother mornings, balance between career and family, more intentional time with your kids, flexibility in your schedule. Set your intentions and write them down. Keep them visible to you daily. This could be with a vision board or vision movie even. Or something simplified like cute little post-it’s on your bathroom mirror. Remind yourself daily of your intentions.

Last, progress over perfection. This one is so important. Big changes don’t happen overnight, and quite honestly, small ones don’t either. Habits take weeks to develop. It doesn’t have to take a lot of time and energy either. It can be as simple as reading or journaling each day or reconnecting with something you loved to do in your past. This little shift in thinking can be incredibly powerful.
